RIDGEON NETWORK LAUNCHES BULLYDB.COM –
THE CYBERBULLY DATABASE TO COMBAT BULLYING ON THE INTERNET
Nuneaton, Warwickshire, UK 15 October 2007 – Ridgeon Network today announces the launch of a new website to combat ‘CyberBullying’. CyberBullying is causing suffering to huge amounts of innocent Internet users worldwide.
BullyDB.com provides an online service for children to check to see if the person attempting to ‘add’, speak or chat to them on the Internet is already known by the site for being a CyberBully. The website provides the facility for children to report a CyberBully which will be flagged up when another person searches for that person’s details or ‘Internet alias’ on the website.
As well as providing an online service for checking and reporting CyberBullies and Internet abusers, BullyDB has its own dedicated discussion forum that is open to people of all ages who are suffering from any type of bullying and for people who have anti-bullying advice for others. The discussion forum also houses a topic locked only for use by school teachers and education officials which will provide an area for discussion on techniques and advice for combating bullying in academia. With the increased focus on CyberBullying, schools are being urged to take action to prevent such events and we hope that BullyDB can be one of the tools at their disposal.
Additional features launching with the site include advice pages with links to recommended websites with information for pupils, parents and schools. The site’s ‘Cheer-Up’ page contains six sections of content with links to fun and entertainment online.
With the increasing awareness of CyberBulling in recent media and Anti-Bulling week just a month away (19 November), Ridgeon Network feels this anonymous service will be extremely useful for children of all ages. The site allows them to check for previous incidents that other children have experienced without disclosing any details. The facility of being able to report and add a bully to the database anonymously also enables children to do something about CyberBullies and help others.

About CyberBullying
Until technology progressed, Bullying was something which happened to children at school. Now, with the invention of chat rooms, instant messaging, social networking and mobile text messaging; children can be contacted out of school, any time and even in the comfort and protection of their own bedrooms. In September 2007, the BBC reported about a girl being targeted by email and text messages constantly receiving offensive remarks and insults which progressed to stabbing threats and police action. This is an example of what is happening to children across the globe who are innocently using the Internet for research and entertainment. In 2005, one website quoted that a study showed more than 40 percent of students claimed they had been a victim of CyberBullying.
